FAMILY SCHOOL

FAMILY SCHOOL

It's only natural that after a diagnosis is made for someone close to us (family member, friend, etc.), we feel like all we have is uncertainty and ignorance.

These schools address this lack of knowledge through mutual information, with people in the same situation, and under the supervision of a professional member of AMAFE.

These schools last 2 months and we can summarize their goals in 4:

  • Improve knowledge of psychosis and schizophrenia.
  • Fight the stigma surrounding serious mental health issues.
  • Expand information on the Mental Health Resource Network.
  • Create a family climate of trust and support, and address the emotional management of caregivers.

  • With these objectives, we seek to promote the social and community participation of the first persons and their families.

We carry out two editions: The first begins in February, and the second in October.

The Family Schools are structured in 8 sessions of 3 hours each one, taking place weekly:

    1. Opening.
    2. Psychosis: concepts, types and evolution.
    3. Psychosis: causes and symptoms.
    4. Disability and dependency aid.
    5. Stigma and self-stigma.
    6. Social Care Network and legal protection measures.
    7. Expressed emotion and caregiver overload.
    8. Closing of sessions.

    9. These sessions have a cost of €80 per cohabitation unit, and it is essential that at least a person appears as an associate.
