At AMAFE, we fight against the stigma that people with mental health problems suffer daily.
The stigma is the prejudice This predisposes people to negative attitudes toward people with mental disorders. It involves a set of erroneous beliefs, attitudes of social rejection, fear, and exclusionary actions that hinder recovery processes and increase the risk of social exclusion and discrimination.
In some cases, it is the people themselves who perceive themselves negatively (self-stigma), making it difficult to seek professional help and delaying detection, diagnosis, and treatment, in addition to the consequences for the person.
To do this, we participate in projects to give voice and visibility to people with mental health problems.
We have the working group 'Spokesmen', in which we address various topics, represent AMAFE, and carry out concrete actions to break the stigma, promote appropriate terminology, send out communications, and promote campaigns, among other things.
You can hear us on a multitude of radio and television programs, or collaborating on mental health events. Whether you'd like to join the group or propose an idea, write to comunicacion@amafe.org.
And we're present on various social media platforms. Are you following us?
