At AMAFE, we place the individual at the center of our intervention. Therefore, as an association representing people with psychosis and schizophrenia, our organization is formed and led by individuals from the community itself, who make their decisions independently.
With this principle in mind, In 2021, the organization's first group of first-person volunteers was born under the "My Grain of Sand" project.
This volunteer group
It is formed and organized by people who, after having experienced a serious mental health problem, They have reached a point in their recovery process where they want to help others as well, and by doing so, they feel useful and contribute to building a better community.
Volunteering in the first person allows, in addition to setting objectives in the recovery process or promoting autonomy,
begin to assume responsibilities and build bonds and connections with other people in the community, also fostering a sense of belonging.
Since the beginning of My Grain of Sand, a total of 8 fundraising campaigns for donations to vulnerable groupsin which volunteers participate throughout the entire organizational process.
