More than 100 people attended “Volver sin habernos ido”, the first face-to-face event in almost two years, which we held at the Príncipe de Asturias Cultural Center on November 18.
Over the course of two hours, divided into three round tables, technical personnel from AMAFE, members of the volunteers, users and family members of our initiatives, and Joaquín García Uceda, from the ONCE Foundation, were reeling off and sharing projects, experiences, impressions and experiences. during these long months of pandemic.
Bárbara López, president of AMAFE, was in charge of welcoming and conducting the event, which "will show how the Association and its entire team knew how to adapt with great success to the pandemic at a key moment for everyone."
Danièle Bonneau, volunteer coordinator; Eduardo Cocho, member of the Board of Directors, and Carmen Arpide, from the Mutual Aid Group, participated in the first table, "Voluntarily indispensable", together with Joseba Rico, deputy director of AMAFE as moderator, to share their experience volunteering at AMAFE . Without a doubt, it was very moving to hear their testimonies and see first-hand the great generosity of the Association's volunteers. Thank you for your indispensable work!
The 'Emancipation' project starred in the second round table. Esther and Belén Saez, and Pablo Donate, participants in the project, shared their experiences in this initiative coordinated by Marina Carlón and Laura Ruiz, social worker and occupational therapist, respectively, also in charge of moderating the panel. Their valuable testimonials and their courage when facing the project and sharing it with all those present, and with those who followed the event online, left us with the most emotional moments of the event.
"Accessing employment" was the third and last of the round tables. Víctor Santos and José Manuel Sánchez explained their time at En Línea Contigo and Sin Pausa, two programs to reinforce employability for people with psychosocial disabilities, presented by Paula García Valverde and Sara Sastre, AMAFE psychologist and occupational therapist, respectively. Joaquín García Uceda, a technician from Fundación ONCE's Operations department, also participated, highlighting "the life lesson of the users of the projects we develop with AMAFE because they are the true protagonists and the ones who give meaning to our work."
After almost two years without face-to-face events, Going Back Without Leaving was for all of us who are part of AMAFE, technical staff, volunteers and the social base, a great dose of energy that encourages us to continue working for and to improve the quality of life. of people with psychosis and schizophrenia, their families and friends.
We continue!
AMAFE denounces the media treatment of the incidents carried out by Noelia de Mingo
Madrid, September 21, 2021.- AMAFE, the Spanish Association for Support in Psychosis, denounces the treatment of information in the media about the incidents carried out by Noelia de Mingo yesterday in the Madrid municipality of El Molar.
The information poured into the media is irresponsible due to the sensationalist and biased approach with which they report the facts, relegating respect for the person to the background and violating their fundamental rights.
The irresponsible treatment of this type of events feeds the social stigma with which people with mental disorders live, increasing discrimination in all areas of their lives.
For example, in the workplace, this rejection translates into data as alarming as those published in the report "Employment of people with disabilities" published in 2020 by the National Institute of Statistics, which states that people with mental disorders have a employment rate of 16.9%.
For this reason, from AMAFE we urge the media...
AMAFE expresses its rejection of any act of violence, regardless of who commits the acts and recalls that rejection and discrimination are also forms of violence with which people with mental disorders and their loved ones live daily.
